In 1769 the "Brum'tais" declared that their parish church in Wanne was too far from their town : two places separated Brume from Wanne.
The picturesque village chapel, once shaded by a large linden tree, was founded in 1767.
Brume's chapel is dedicated to Saint Hilaire and the Saint Guardian Angels . The Brume Chapel has a statue of Saint Hilaire. He is shown in the costume of a bishop, with knapsack and cap, and holding a large black book. It's folk art, but it expresses our ancestors' devotion to their chapel's patron saint.
Although much older than Saint Remacle, the life of Saint Hilaire of Poitiers is much better known.
Hilaire was born in Poitiers about the year 315 to a pagan family ; he became a teacher. After his conversion, he was baptized around the age of thirty ; He was married and had a daughter named Abra . God was waiting for his day to use this intelligent and energetic man.
Around AD 353, Hilaire was elected Bishop of Poitiers at a time when we were in the midst of the crisis caused by the heresy that denied the divinity of Jesus Christ. The determination of the new bishop led to his banishment by the emperor; this secured him a four-year sojourn in the east (in Phrygia or Turkey), which allowed him to deepen his theological knowledge.
Back in Gaul he worked on the development of monastic life and was a patron of several regional councils. But this pastor was also a scholar; his most important work is a large book on the Holy Trinity, in which the strict logic of the argument does not hide the enthusiastic conviction. He wrote several other books, only fragments of which survive. He died on January 13, 367 or 368. In 1851 he was appointed Doctor of the Church.
