The Eel flood plain can collect 11,500m³ of water. The part west of the Hogevoortstraat consists mainly of a coppice grove. Every winter, one quarter of the surface area is sold in rotation. The part to the east is a large reed pool. Here, too, about a quarter of the reeds are mowed in rotation every autumn. The aim of this management is to maintain the biotope and storage volume.
