The brasserie Bootshuis of yesteryear. Now completely renovated and an attraction. In addition to the Beach Building, the 'Bootshuis' is a second, visual attraction point on the lake. The designer Félix Milan, 1920-2000. Milan would have been 19 years old at the time of completion. It was built in 1939 on an inlet south of the beach zone, adjacent to a jetty for boats. The difference in level between the bank and the water is bridged by a horizontalizing, elongated volume with adjoining terrace and kiosk, the whole built of white plastered brick. The 'Boathouse' contained the open shed at water level, followed by a cellar, a pump room and a storage room. A modest interior staircase led to the second level with changing rooms and sanitary facilities, kitchen and restaurant. A fully glazed roundabout forms the transition to the spacious, metal parapet-protected terrace. At the end of the terrace is a small kiosk, accessible via a staircase that also connects to the pier, which delineates the cove on the north side. The horizontal, streamlined design with flat roof, band windows ('fenêtres à longueur'), portholes, rounded corners and metal parapets, inevitably evokes the image of a stranded parcel boat. The similarity with the boat hotel 'Normandie' (1935) by L. Bruggeman in Oostduinkerke is no coincidence. In 1953, the jetty for rowing boats was covered with a concrete hangar, according to the original plans. In 1963 a second renovation followed in which the 'Bootshuis' was expanded and equipped with a garage.
