Boekhoute is a Belgian village in Meetjesland, a region in the northwest of the Belgian province of East Flanders. In the north of the Meetjesland you will find polders with various watercourses and creeks.
Boekhoute used to be a fishing village (around 1600), but due to silting, reclamation and the First World War, the port is defunct. Near the church is a fishing boat, the Bou-8 which was also called Isabella, to keep the memory of the village's fishing past alive. Opposite the fishing boat is also Castle Ter Leyen.
