"The universe between four walls": this is how Timmermans aptly described the life's work of his friend Louis Zimmer (1888-1970). And that's nothing excessive. The Cornelius Tower - part of the first medieval city wall - is today called Zimmer Tower.

In the façade hangs the impressive Jubilee Clock, an ode to 100 years of Belgian independence. In addition to the right hour, you will discover the signs of the zodiac, the days of the week and the seasons. The right-hand side façade contains four bells and four vending machines representing Lierse folk figures. At noon, the Belgian monarchs and Lierse mayors until 1930 suddenly appear.

The astronomical studio on the first floor illustrates the workings of the universe (including the axis rotations of the planets). The Wonder Bell was given a permanent place in a pavilion next to the Zimmer tower. Zimmer presented this technical feat (93 dials and 14 automatics!) at the 1935 World's Fair in Brussels.
