At the tiny village of Schoppen, the route runs past a lovingly-restored farm dating from 1766, Haus Jierten. At the period when road traffic comprised stagecoaches and carts, there were facilities here to change horses.
The building has been listed as a monument since 1988. The architect and artist Jacques Bruynseraede, originally from Bruges, has lived here for many years. He is among today's greatest water-colour painters. (Sources: various web pages; our own text).
