This bunker belongs to a network of structures that were built by the German occupiers during the Second World War to protect the railway staff. They were set up relatively close to specific railway buildings and offered protection in the event of air raids on railway structures that were repeatedly targeted by Allied bombers. At signal boxes or barracks guard houses you would often find these small one-man structures. In places where several people were employed at the same time, it was more common to find the tube structures that were suitable for providing protection to a group of people.
