This basin was dug from 1866 onwards, in order to have soil for the fortifications of the Brialmont fort. The municipality of Kallo complained: such a pool of 4.5 meters deep would cause 'heavy fumes' and cause diseases! The War Department did not act on the objection and the pit was dug. Afterwards, it turned out that no one was complaining: many fish appeared in the 'Baarzenput' or 'Bazeput'. Older people from Kallon think back with sentiment to the time when they went fishing, swimming or... Make love.
