Van Acker Castle, now town hall with accompanying public park of 5 hectares opposite the west façade of the parish church. Since at least the first half of the 19th century, there has been a pleasure garden with a house near the current castle park, presumably a country estate planted on the road at the corner with the Kerkhamstraat (now gone). Purchased in 1898 by T. Libbrecht-Soupart, lawyer and from 1900 to 1924 mayor of Destelbergen. T. Libbrecht had the current castle built in 1913. After the death of Mrs. Libbrecht-Soupart (1914), the castle remained unfinished on the inside and was finally sold in 1923 in that condition with park to M. Van Acker Herry (Sint-Denijs-Westrem) who was the first to come to live in it permanently. Since 1974 it has been owned by the municipality of Destelbergen.
