During the First World War, the Schans van Schilde was blown up by the Belgian army. The ramp is located on the anti-tank canal, near cycle junctions 46 and 26. The redoubt is part of the anti-tank cycle route and on route 3 'anti-tank moat and heath' of the bicycle brochure 'Herover de Forten'. The Schans van Schilde is, together with Schans Smoutakker, the only redoubt around Antwerp that is used as a wintering place for bats.
Cyclists: via the Turnhoutsebaan (N12) and the Schanslaan or via the Antitankgracht.
Bus stop: Schilde Schanslaan on the Turnhoutsebaan.
Motorists: the side streets (including the Schanslaan) are currently closed. The parking just before the ramp is therefore no longer accessible by car.
