The landscape is defined by meadows and rows of trees. This is the landscape where Felix Timmermans loved to spend his days. He even chose the Grobbendonk borough of Bouwel as the location for 'Minneke Poes', a description of folkloric life in the Kempen. At the end of the road you reach the Kleine Nete at the mouth of the Aa. Since the 12th century, the watermill of the knightly family of Grobbendonk, who lived on 'Het Hof', has been located here. The mill burned down several times: in 1268, 1597 and 1919. Now it is classified together with the surrounding area. Of the castle that burned down in 1579, only the stables remain. The property is owned by Count d'Ursel, a descendant of a German merchant, who bought the castle in 1545.
