The forest is 57 hectares in size and is located south of the village and borough of Oosterzele. It is predominantly an oak-hornbeam forest, with parts of ash-elm forest and alder forest in the humid places around the Kleine and Grote Ettingebeek. It is an old forest with spring bloomers such as forest anemone, teatweed and slender primrose. There are dry and wet parts because the Kleine and Grote Ettingebeek flow through the forest. In part of the forest there are also so-called rebates, elongated embankments between ditches. The soil from the ditches is used to raise the rabat. The trees were planted on the embankments. In the Ettingebos lives squirrel, buzzard, elm page, hawk, roe deer, small kingfisher butterfly. The forest area is part of the Flemish Ecological Network. In 2020, Natuurpunt department Oosterzele purchased 12 hectares of the Ettingebos. The signposted Ettingen hiking trail runs through the forest.
