Tourist tower 'De Paepekelders'

The Bosbergen on the northern edge of the city form a link in the Kempense Heuvelrug. At its highest point you will find The Tourist Tower 'De Paepekelders', one of the tourist trump cards of Herentals. The watchtower is a wooden construction with a total height of 24 meters (highest floor: 22 meters). It was built on the highest point of Herentals, a sand dune, 40 meters above sea level, in the unique Kempische nature framework.
In clear weather, the tower offers an unforgettable panorama. From the highest platform you can see 110 towers. The first tourist tower was built in 1958 and demolished in 1983. The current tower was erected in 1985 by the city council with subsidies from the Commissariat - General for Tourism and opened its doors on May 25, 1985.
In the immediate vicinity of the tourist tower, beautiful forest walks begin. The Tourist Tower is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the period between May 1 and September 30, during the Christmas and Easter holidays and all weekends. Outside only for groups on request.
