This small park is dominated by the statues of counts Egmont and Hoorn who were beheaded at the Grand Place on 5th June 1568. They had asked the catholic Spanish rulers to show some tolerance towards Protestantism. They are surrounded by statues of ten 16th century humanists. One of them is William of Orange or William the Silent who led the rebellion against the Spanish king Philip II and who is the founder of the Netherlands. He is holding a commander’s staff in his left hand and his right hand rests on a sword. Which number does he have on the plan of Petit Sablon? (I to X)
