The gallery was founded in 1969, when an exhibition with works by Octave Landuyt was organized here. A few years later she already occupied an important place in the international art world. The gallery owner, Albert Van Wiemeersch, succeeded in bringing artists of the "Cobra" movement to Flanders, among others. Karel Appel, Corneille, Alechinsky, Lucebert, Wallace Ting, Hugo Claus, Roger Wittevrongel and many other artists exhibited their works in the Kunstforum. Gallery "Kunstforum" also published the leading art magazine of the same name for many years.
The corner of the Langeweide and the Gaversesteenweg has been known as the "Maendach houc" since 1550. From 1913 the café of "Juulken Den Duiver" was located here. This was the main café of the brick kilns. Jules Van Haudenhuyse was not only a café owner but also a clog maker.
