This spring and stream forest in the Laarbeek valley is located about 50m above sea level. That is also the height where the Ypresian clay layer is located, which is a water-pushing layer. As a result, you have a lot of seeping springs along the stream and a pretty soggy habitat with moisture-loving plants such as ash, poplar, forest anemone, teatweed, badger garlic,... Not suitable as alpine land, because it is too soggy for that. That is why the farmers have used this as a forest strip for centuries (see Ferraris map on image, dating from the end of the 18th century).
