In the night of 24 to 25 August 1944, August Snoecx was lifted from his bed by four men of the Black Brigade and taken away. He was suspected by the collaborators of having participated in a raid on the post office in Testelt.
The next morning, his body, riddled with bullets, was found along the road to Langdorp. His wife Sidonia Boonen was left behind with five children. She took the initiative to erect the chapel in memory of her husband.
