At the beginning of the 12th century, the right of patronage of this parish was donated by the Bishop of Cambrai to the Abbey of Dielegem, which had been founded not long before. The original Romanesque church began to be rebuilt in 1686, but it was not until 1743 that the church could be consecrated. This church was built in late Baroque style. In 1935 the church was withdrawn from worship, after the new St. Peter and Paul Church was consecrated on August 4. This much larger church served the parishioners of the whole of Neder-Over-Heembeek, which had already been annexed to Brussels in 1921 and was undergoing strong urbanization.
