Artist Barbara Cnockaert

Ever since you were little, you could find me among the drawing pencils, paint and other creative stuff. It was therefore quickly decided that an art education would be my true 'salvation'. I first studied Artistic Design at St-Lucas in Ghent and then I studied Free Printmaking at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent.

For me, art is a way of being and thinking. It's also hard for me to imagine a life without creating. My paintings and drawings make me stop. Reflecting on what touches me, what I learn and what I feel. It's my escape route from the hectic pace. Every work carries a story with it. Subtle. Because I like to leave the freedom to the viewer to give a personal interpretation to it.

I get my inspiration mainly from my passion for people and their thinking, but also from the trials and tribulations of life, fascinating conversations and sticky reflections.
