In the run-up to the invasion, the Allies bombed strategic places such as railway installations and road infrastructure in Belgium in the spring of 1944. Aarschot was badly ravaged. Between 7 and 22 May, the city would be hit four times by bombs. The destination was the marshalling yard. It was impossible for the bombsights to hit the target accurately from an altitude of 3000 meters and the damage from collateral damage was enormous: 894 homes were destroyed or heavily damaged and 43 civilians were killed. The German occupiers deployed about 1000 workers to repair the station and within a few days two main tracks of the training station were ready for use.
