The Pede pond is located in the regional park of the same name and was excavated in the eighties to serve as a storm basin and to collect the excess water from the Neerpedebeek in heavy rain. The pond is very popular with birds such as the moorhen, mallard, kingfisher and crested duck. On the lush banks is meadowsweet, which is recognizable thanks to its long, reddish stem and (from June) by its fragrant flowers in off-white. The plant has a beneficial, aspirin-like effect.
Tufted duck
This fresh water diving duck can be found in our ponds all year round. To find its food (crustaceans, insects...), the crested duck can disappear underwater for 10 to 20 seconds and dive up to 7 meters deep! The male is recognizable by the striking black plumes with white on the side, and by the tintin at the back of his neck.
