From 2008 to 2010, Joke Van Leeuwen was Antwerp's first female city poet. In that capacity, she not only wrote poems: through collaboration with designer Bob Takes, those poems were also given a special place in the city in all kinds of ways. For example, a digital poem was projected on facades and in department stores, and a poem of more than a kilometre could be read in the pedestrian tunnel.
With 'Song for the Canal Zone' she made a statement: this neighbourhood is also Antwerp. The first two lines were affixed to the Bosto silo in 2009 and inaugurated with a neighbourhood party. Bosto's employees spontaneously made large pans of paella for the attendees.
From here you can see the poem.
