Play zone Green finger in Nieuwenhove

This construction is inspired by a house from 3000 years ago, when people and animals slept under one roof, with a separation between house and stable. The houses consisted of poles with wickerwork in between. Clay was smeared on the wickerwork so that people and animals were protected against rain and wind. The roofs were covered with thatch or straw.

Expedition Nieuwenhovebos catapults you back to the Bronze Age. Discover what life was like in the beautiful forest. Prepare a vegetable dish in the cooking area or offer an offering in the temple by the water. Can you climb to the attic of the Bronze Age house? Eek! What's in the well? Of course you first have to go through the time gate at the start!

A fifth “Expedition Bulskampveld” has been completed in the Nieuwenhovebos. The Expeditions are adventurous and sustainable walking routes of two to three kilometers for children from 4 to 12 years and their companions. The bull of the Bulskampveld shows the way via posts and the children are given all kinds of assignments. In the Expedition Nieuwenhovebos they are related to the Bronze Age. They refer to the many archaeological sites from this period in the vicinity of Nieuwenhove. The VLM has also responded to the Bronze Age theme when developing the play zones in Nieuwenhove. For example, in the Green Finger play area, a Bronze Age house was reconstructed as a game element.

The expedition starts at the new reception point of the Bulskampveld landscape park, which was recently set up by the Flemish Land Agency and the municipality of Oostkamp on the Waterstraat (connection with Kanunnik Davidstraat). This reception point contains a starting sign indicating the recreational circuits and the surroundings of the Nieuwenhovebos and an information board from the forest itself about the forest.

The new play zones are located along the Waterstraat and along the connecting path between the Hertendreef and the Kanunnik Davidstraat on the edge of the Nieuwenhove district in Oostkamp.
