This is once the mansion rented by Charles Lennox, Colonel and Duke of Richmond. On June 15, 1815, they held a great ball. The ball was held in the adjacent workshop, which was decorated for the occasion. There was an impressive guest list, including the Prince of Orange, the commander in chief Wellington, and the mayor of Brussels. The festive mood changed when at 1 a.m. a lieutenant came to the Print van Oranje to report that Napoleon's French troops had been sighted south of Quatre-Bras . Wellignton and his allies had clearly been taken by surprise by Napoleon. The next day a first battle was fought at Quatre-Bras. Two days later, the ultimate battle of Waterloo would take place. Six of the soldiers present at this ball would not make it to the end of the week.
