Hof ter Welle is one of the oldest sites in Beveren.
At the beginning of the thirteenth century there was a walled farm here, which grew into a full-fledged castle in the course of the Middle Ages. From the 13th century until the beginning of the 18th century, Hof ter Welle was inhabited by knightly and noble families. In 1723, the daughter of the mayor of Beverly, Anna Piers, bought the building to house an orphanage for young girls. The site grew into an orphanage, school and monastery grounds. In 1980, Hof ter Welle was bought by the municipality of Beveren, which housed its rich heritage collections in it in 2017. Today, the Hof ter Welle Heritage House is a museum, local history library, arts depot and meeting place. The museum also refers to the figure of Saint Martin and the Saint Martin tradition in Beveren.
