This bench is located at the Sint-Pieterschurch in Schorisse, a sub-municipality of Maarkedal.
Schorisse is the birthplace of the poet Omer Wattez. Poems can be seen in various places in the municipality. There is also a hiking trail named after him.
In 1888, Omer Wattez and his friend the poet Pol De Mont, after an inspiring walk on the Geuzen tower in the music forest, were admiring the landscape when Pol De Mont exclaimed: 'But these are the Flemish Ardennes'. Since then, that has been the pet name of this pearl of the region.
