There are several hypotheses about the name Schorisse. Some assume that the heavy loamy subsoil is called 'salt soil', others posit that the name originates from the tribe 'the Scories' who kept an ugly house here during Roman rule.
The inhabitants of Schorisse have long been nicknamed 'zullezitters'. 'Zulle' means sill and 'zullezitter' refers to sitting on the sill where conversations arose between neighbours. In 2009 the statue 'de zallezitter' was unveiled here on the village square.
