This is a strikingly different piece of forest: a coniferous wood stock in the deciduous forest. Here you will find meter-high Douglas fir and giant silver firs. Because make no mistake: even though the well-known Christmas song reads 'oh pine tree', the evergreen conifer that you put in your living room, and here takes on impressive heights, is a fir. The needlesare all separate on the branches ('S olo' – Spar), which is different from pine, where they are always per 2 ('D uo' – Dand). The spruces were planted here about 50 years ago after diseased oaks were cut down. Recently, some spruce trees were also referred to here as a future tree. This species diversity in a forest is important, among other things for small birds such as siskins or crossbill species that enjoy the seeds in the spruce cones.
