Groenendael Priory

Founded in the 14th century, this monastery owes part of its fame to its first prior, Jean van Ruysbroeck, who had a great influence on the mysticism of the Middle Ages. Nearly six centuries later, in 1795, the priory was dissolved following the French reforms; The buildings that had resounded with the prayers of the monks and the hunts led by the crowned heads who stopped there were cut up and sold stone by stone. A century later, the site, abandoned, is experiencing a new golden age, that of horse racing.
