The chapel of Mont-Sainte-Marie consists of two separate parts from the 11th and 16th centuries. They were once joined together and are now separated into two buildings.
The hamlet of Mont-Sainte-Marie has existed since at least the 11th century and had its watchtower. With the addition of a Gothic nave and chapel , the tower became the bell tower of the new village parish church.
The ship was destroyed between 1710 and 1740, probably during one of the frequent raids that ravaged the region. In 1817 what remained of the chapel came into the hands of the Haultepenne family, who placed a family vault in it. The tower lost its spire in 1876 during a hurricane.
The former sanctuary is now the necropolis of the de Liedekerke family, the owners of the site.
