It was the owner of the Mont Fat property, Ernestine Lion (1843-1926), who took the initiative to build a viewpoint , today's Mont Fat Tower .
During the works, a medieval military gallery was discovered not far from the remains of a medieval fortification (the Montfort Tower).
The observation tower is 20 meters high and has 82 steps. Built by contractor Edouard Culot de Lisogne, it rises more than 120 meters above the Meuse. The tower was damaged during fighting on August 15, 1914 . After the invasion in May 1940, the Mont Fat tower became a German observation post. On September 4, 1944 , the tower was shelled by the American army, which had come to liberate Dinant. It was restored in 1947.
