The street was called Ziekeliedenstraat after the hospital " Ter Zieken " or " Leprosen ", which was located on this street on the grounds of the library.
Founded outside the city in 1190, this hospital moved to a hotel in the Rogbroecstraat at the end of the 16th century. In the mid-17th century the building was converted from a hotel to a monastery and a chapel was built. In 1783 the order was abolished. The buildings were successively ordered as a military bakery, charity workshop (1802-1870) and military camp.
The buildings were demolished in the mid-20th century to accommodate a public library.
