In 1882 a grotto with a life-size statue of the Virgin Mary with the Rosary was built in the church of Nettinne .
In 1896 an iron Madonna of the Rosary was erected on the present site , forming a natural area surrounded by a large rock . Permission was later granted to celebrate mass twice a year, on August 15 and the first Sunday in October . These are still being produced.
