When the construction of the castle was completed at the end of 1877 , the Maere-Limnander family moved in. The landscape architect Louis Fuchs was commissioned with the idyllic design of the garden .
August de Maere had a landscaped park laid out around the palace. In the park, Fuchs created an illusion of landscape with water features , artificial reliefs , open lawns and groups of trees planted to great effect. The rear facade of the castle is reflected in a pond , the branch of which extends into the forest. A bathhouse was built on the shore, a neoclassical building overlooking the castle and the surrounding vegetation.
