Start of the old sand pit in Schansheide...

Open since May 2022 for the nature-loving hiker on the occasion of 150 years of existence Sibelco and in collaboration with Natuurpunt who will continue to manage the quarry professionally.

Heathland...

Heathlands have been created by replenishing the sand mining lake, mainly due to the covering soils and the unsaleable fractions of the mined minerals.

Special and rare butterfly species have been discovered here as well as species of beetles, lizards and the nightjar.
