During the battle of August 15, two civilians from Dinant were killed: postman Narcisse Pirson and Léon Moussoux (55), who was injured in the performance of his duties. He wore a Red Cross bracelet and made his way to Rue Saint-Jacques around 1:00 PM that day to help wounded soldiers. He was shot in the head from the top of the fortress.

The German authorities would not acknowledge their failure in the August 15 battle. Their displeasure hit the city of Dinant all the harder, which from that day on was 'damned' in the eyes of the officers and soldiers.
