Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Sept douleurs - Mourcourt

Chapel built in honor of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows.

It was built in 1869 in plain brick and painted white.

Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which refers to her sorrows and sorrows during the life of Jesus Christ, her Son.

The Seven Sorrows of Mary are seven special moments in the life of Jesus Christ where Mary experienced extreme suffering as a mother . These sorrows are:

1. Simeon's Prophecy : When Jesus was presented as a baby in the temple, pious Simeon predicted that a sword of sorrow would pierce Mary's heart.

2. The Flight into Egypt: Mary and Joseph had to flee to Egypt to protect Jesus from the threat of King Herod, who wanted to kill all the young children.

3. The Loss of Jesus in the Temple: When Jesus was twelve years old, he fell behind on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Mary and Joseph were in great fear and sorrow when they found him in the temple after three days of searching.

4. Mary meets Jesus on the way to Calvary : Mary came on the way to the crucifixion of Jesus and saw him in his agony.

5. The Crucifixion of Jesus: Mary stood at the foot of the cross and saw her Son die, an indescribable moment of sorrow and pain.

6. Receiving the body of Jesus in her arms : After the crucifixion, Mary received the lifeless body of Jesus in her arms.

7. The body of Jesus is placed in the tomb: Mary and others placed the body of Jesus in the tomb.

The devotion to Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows offers believers a way to connect with the sufferings of Mary and Jesus, and to ask her intercession in times of pain, sorrow and trials. Her dedication is often celebrated on September 15 in the Catholic Church.
