In full: Musée de la tapestry et des arts du tissu (TAPAT - Museum of Tapestry and Weaving).
The museum is located in Huize Gorin from 1825.
Luxuriant Tournai tapestries from the 15th and 16th centuries confront contemporary work by the Forces Murales group. Roger Somville, Edmond Debrunfaut and Louis Deltour were among them. The old tapestries hang downstairs, while the upper floor features recent work by contemporary artists.
In the associated CRECIT workshop, tapestries from all over the world are restored and new tapestries are made to order. Research is also being done here into the dyeing and treatment of wool.
Tournai has a rich tradition in textiles and weaving, and the museum plays a vital role in preserving and displaying this cultural heritage. It offers insight into the techniques and skills used in the production of tapestries and textiles.
The museum is a must-visit for lovers of art, history and craft traditions. It offers an in-depth insight into the art of weaving and the beautiful textile artworks created over the centuries.
