Chateau de Faulx

Description

This is a real fairytale castle.

The castle was built in the Gothic style at the end of the 13th century and deteriorated significantly from the end of the Middle Ages until its restoration in the 19th century by architect Henri Beyaert who preserved the old towers and reborn the left facade in style.

After the terrible fire of 1961, the old main building on the north side was replaced by the current gallery. In 1968 it welcomed the Gesves riding and breeding school , which moved to the Gesves plateau in 1976. In 1972, the municipality of Etterbeek bought the castle and organized green lessons, social tourism and private parties there. The castle is being converted into a hotel. The 23 rooms can accommodate almost 50 people. The stables will be converted into outdoor classrooms for students of municipal schools. The holiday center includes three classes of 25 students, an entertainment room equipped with projection equipment, games rooms, dormitories and toilets. A restaurant has opened near the castle. It was inaugurated in 1976 and can serve almost 150 people at a time.

In 1991, Christophe Demeyer and his parents bought the site. This estate consists of the castle, the old stables and a cafeteria and extends over 30 hectares of parkland, woods and meadows, all crossed by 2 rivers: the Arville and the Samson. A hotel activity was developed over 3 years. In 1994, the shareholders decided to keep Château de Faulx completely private , making it the headquarters of several other companies that they have since developed. Among these companies we find a management structure for retirement homes for the elderly, private stables for professionals and riding schools or audiovisual production.

The castle also played a small role in the infamous Dutroux case, the Belgian pedophile who kidnapped and murdered young girls. His companion M. Nihoul is said to have attended several sex parties held at the castle in the 1980s.
