Description

The Porte de Sambre, a monumental limestone portal in Louis

This basket-handle portal is framed by two Tuscan split pilasters beneath a high attic.

Certainly from the 10th century onwards , the city was surrounded by a belt of fortifications that expanded over time and reached its greatest extent in the 15th century: the borders of what we today call the 'corbeille' .
