Passerelle Safea - La Louvière

La Louvière, a city of 78,000 inhabitants (fifth largest city in Wallonia), bears witness to one of the most remarkable industrial pasts of Belgium. Various industries, including mining, metal construction, pottery, etc. were the heyday of the “City of Wolves”.

But the closure of these industries has created industrial cancer , sometimes right in the city centre.

That is why investments have been made since the 1990s to provide the city with a new living environment and to enable its economic redevelopment.

On the “SAFEA” site (named after a former nitrogen fertilizer production company), a project was carried out which aimed to clean up the most polluted areas and renovate certain buildings in order to enable the implementation of a land redistribution project in a service area, in a craft or SME zone and in a green zone.
