Brewery Ter Dool

Mike Janssen, former marketing manager in a large brewery, thought it was the time to throw himself into the family brewing adventure a few years ago. He and his then wife, Mieke De Splenter, had their eye on the castle De Dool in Helchteren, once serving as the summer residence of the abbots of Sint-Truiden. They had a small-scale but state-of-the-art brewery installed there and started brewing. The blonde Ter Dolen was their first product.
The man who called himself brewer-abbot with a quip has now left the castle, and Mieke De Splenter is now at the helm. Due to these family circumstances, she is now the first female brewer in Limburg. Her roots point in a clear direction. Her aunt brews the Kapittel beer in Boezinge, West Flanders. An uncle was a brewer. A second cousin bottles Kwak. A cousin is director at brewery De Koninck. The brewer's stable apparently runs in the family.
