Who is Leon Segers?

Leon Segers is a fictional character who was created to tell about the First World War in this region. He was born in Ploegsteert, on the border between Blegien and France. His parents grew tobacco and ran a pub, but due to his curious nature, his vocation lay in journalism. When the war broke out, he remained in unoccupied Belgium, from where he followed the war. His grandparents lived in Roeselare and experienced the occupation there. After the war, Leon listened to their stories and anecdotes. Curious as Leon was, he set off on his bicycle through the city in search of the remnants of the war and the stories behind it.
