Van Dikkebus through the Heuvelland

Go to the church of Dikkebus. Follow immediately onto exit 53. Via the Windeweg and the Zweerdstraat you reach the Dikkebusweg, which you follow on the right. Then take the first country road on the left. This is the Procession Road, a private road where walkers are welcome. Through an airlock, with a gate, you enter a meadow, which you leave 100 m further in the same way. You walk further down a grass path to the Oude Bellestraat. Follow it to the right to the end. Here you turn left into the Waterdreef. At the fork, where the gravel road leads to a house, take the country road on the right. The path becomes rougher and narrower and you end up with a large stable. Turn left, next to the field, until exit 53. There you turn right, direction 51. But, you won't go that far at the moment. Where the signage allows you to turn left into a country road, continue straight. You will come back here later. The part you have traveled so far belongs to Wandelnetwerk Ieperboog. Continue now until you reach the end of Kerkstraat and turn right towards exit 15. You have now started a tour of Wandelnetwerk Heuvelland. Follow Millekruisstraat 100 m to the right, then turn left into Diepestraat. It's a happy walk here, with beautiful views and the Kemmelberg as an eye-catcher. You arrive at the busy Reningelststraat and follow it to exit 15. Turn right towards 14. You walk a grass path to the Dikkebusstraat. You follow it on the left, past the roundabout and the church of De Klijte. Just after that, take the cemetery road next to 't Kruideniertje on the right.

At the cemetery, turn left and arrive at exit 14. Walk straight, direction 70. It continues to ripple through the beautiful landscape. At the junction with Ommegangstraat, turn left. Here you can enjoy a 360° panorama. At a fork with a chapel, turn right into the cul-de-sac. Past a farm, the asphalt stops and you continue on a rough country road to an asphalt road. Follow it on the left until exit 70. Continue straight ahead and 100 m further you are already at exit 52. Cross the Dikkebusstraat and follow the uphill paved road on the other side, direction 50. Take the narrow forest path on the right and climb along the side of the Scherpenberg (125 m). Then get off until exit 50. Here is an orientation chart. You can enjoy a magnificent panorama. On the right you see the bell tower of the church of Loker. Continue to exit 51, which you will reach after 100 m. Via the Kalissestraat you go down to exit 54. Now walk via the Steenhofstraat in the direction of 55. You cross the Kemmelbeek and cross the Noordstraat until you reach exit 55. Continue straight, direction 15. Cross the busy Reningelststraat and turn left at the end of the Noordstraat. Now follow Millekruisstraat until you can turn right into Kerkstraat. Then take the country road on the right, which you left out earlier. You walk again on the Ypres Salient hiking network. Walk towards the 51 on a rough grass road, cross the Kemmelbeek and you will arrive a little further on a narrow paved road, which you follow on the left. After more than a kilometer, you reach junction 51 between two military cemeteries of the First World War. Follow the Vierstraat on the left until exit 52, which is on the Kemmelbeek. Follow this stream on the right until exit 54. If you want to shorten the walk by 2 km, you can take links to 55 steps. Our tour goes through roads 57 and 56 around the pond of Dikkebus (36 ha). At exit 56, you step over the terrace of Dikkebusvijverhuis Etang - Dikkebus - Vijver. Here is also the Vauban tower (1648). From 56, it increases to 55. There you move away from the Dikkebusvijver, around 53. First on a church path between fields, then on a narrow paved road to your starting point at Dikkebus church.
