Beautiful nature walk in Postel. The walk goes for the most part through the shady forests of Postel.

Postel is a residential area of the Municipality of Mol in the Belgian province of Antwerp.

Postel is located near the Dutch border; the distance to the Dutch Reusel is therefore smaller than the distance to Mol-centrum. It covers an area of 44.43 km² and has a population of 210 (31 December 2010). Within the municipality of Mol it is therefore the hamlet with the largest area and with the least number of inhabitants.

The hamlet consists mainly of forests, nature reserves and large farms, some of which specialize in growing sod.

Abbey

Postel is best known for its Norbertine abbey. This Abbey of Postel was from 1138 to 1613 a priory belonging to the Abbey of Floreffe. It then became an independent abbey. In French times the abbey was closed. From 1797 the complex was privately owned for several decades, until it was decided in 1847 to return it to the monastics. In that year the Norbertines returned.

Abbey of Postel

The abbey church dates from the 12th century. This was originally built in Romanesque style with some later Gothic additions. The tower is built in Baroque style.

Since 1960, Postel Abbey has also been known for the beer of the same name, which is brewed in Opwijk. From 1611 to about 1943, beer was brewed intermittently in the abbey itself for its own use. A cheese is also named after Postel.
