The Roman Catholic parish of St. Nicholas, popularly called Artländer Dom, is the symbol of Ankum, an ancient town that was once traded mainly cloth. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas is located on the Vogelsberg, high above the market arches.
The church tower is 79 meters high and rests on a three-storey base, which was built in 1514 on the old one, probably before 1100 the church was built.
In the church the old Ankumer Cross has been preserved, written about 1280. The present church was built after the fire of the old parish church in 1892 in four years of construction of 1896 and inaugurated in 1900. The Berlin sculptor Paul Brandenburg created altar, tabernacle, ambo (music stand) and other details such as door handles.
