If you climb the Brokken from the Heinrich-Heine hiking trail, it is worth stopping and turning around every now and then and enjoying the picturesque view of the valley. In the vicinity of the Bismarckklippe you have, for example, a wonderful view of the Ecker reservoir, the mountains surrounding the lake, as well as the northern Harz near Bad Harzburg and far beyond. At the sight of this, all the efforts that the steep ascent has demanded of you so far, are forgotten for a brief moment.
