Hirtenstieg
The Heinrich-Heine hiking trail leads via the Hirtenstieg, a route that probably took shepherds and cattle to the pastures on the Brocken in ancient times. Later, the border troops of the GDR used the route. The concrete slabs with sharp holes date from this period.
This road to the top of the Brocken is very steep. On large parts of the route you only see the concrete path, the sky and the low trees along the way. Stamina and perseverance are needed to bring the last part to a successful conclusion.
