Description by the author

A leisurely and natural tour with 14 ponds in the Jägersburg Forest, some of which are well-known but some of which are unknown. The experience value is particularly important here. In addition to families, hikers looking for relaxation and inexperienced hikers also have an eventful day ahead of them.

The 14-pond tour is a varied, but also rather leisurely circular hiking trail with the Blockhaus, PETERS Biergarten, Il Lago and the Café am Schlossweiher as refreshment stops. Water is the main element of this trail. It leads along several ponds, pools and ponds in the Erbach and Felsbach valleys. Numerous animals can be observed. Dragonflies, frogs and birds are at home here. The kingfisher is a rare and special experience. In the course of the renaturation of the Erbach, some ponds were filled in. Nevertheless, the number 14 is reached when all the water areas along the path are taken into account. A little imagination can do no harm. A few steps away from the hustle and bustle of the local recreation area, especially at weekends, you can immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the forest. The Felsbachtal nature reserve, which was designated as such in 1992, leads directly from the Brückweiher pond into the forest. The path now leads through the former ducal hunting grounds. It crosses the Taubental valley between the Erbach and Felsbach streams. The ponds are not a modern invention. As early as the Middle Ages, carp and pike were bred here as fasting food. The castle pond probably existed before the construction of the moated castle of Hattweiler, today's Gustavsburg. In 1564, it is recorded on a map by Tilemann Stella, which can be viewed in the castle and palace museum in Gustavsburg. In addition to nature, the adventure stations on the edge of the hiking trail are of course major highlights. The Fun Forest adventure park, the pedal boat hire, the playground at PETERS Biergarten, the water playground at the mini golf course and the play and picnic area at Brückweiher invite you to linger a little longer.

The three well-known Jägersburg ponds - the Brückweiher, the Schlossweiher and the Möhlwoog - are not only popular with local day-trippers, but also increasingly with visitors from all over the Saarland and further afield. So if you want to spend more than just a day at the Jägersburg ponds, you can stay at PETERS Hotel & Spa for one or two nights. The hotel is the top address in the northern region of Homburg and has a lot to offer in the outdoor area in addition to culinary delights.
