Description by the author

The approx. 5 km long walk through the town of Blieskastel follows in the footsteps of Countess Marianne von der Leyen's baroque style from the Paradeplatz via the Gollenstein, Blieskastel Monastery and back to the beautiful old town of Blieskastel.

The town walk leads from the former Paradeplatz through the narrow alleyways in the old town of Blieskastel steeply uphill (stairs with 207 steps) to the monastery grounds with the monastery park and the Chapel of the Holy Cross. In March 1913, the so-called Madonna of the Arrows was placed on the altar in the chapel, reviving an old pilgrimage tradition. In 1924, Bishop Ludwig Sebastian of Speyer called Capuchins from the Bavarian Province of the Order to Blieskastel in the then "Saar region" in order to provide pastoral care for the ever-increasing number of pilgrims. Construction of the monastery complex began just one year later. Blieskastel is still an important place of pilgrimage in the diocese of Speyer today because of the "Our Lady with the Arrows" statue. Today, the pilgrimage monastery is looked after by the Franciscan Minorite order.Other stops on the tour include the seven-metre-high Gollenstein, the Schellental forest adventure park in the Blieskastel municipal forest and the Maximilian Column in Tiergartenstraße, which originally stood in the town. The 6.20-metre-high, 12-tonne column made of red sandstone was donated by the citizens of Blieskastel to King Maximilian Joseph, "the father of the fatherland", in 1823 on the occasion of the construction of the important new Blieskastel-Biesingen-Sarreguemines road. From here, the tour leads back to the old town.

Sturdy footwear is recommended for the approximately 5-kilometre-long city walk, as there are also some unpaved paths.</p
